UPA Conference 2004

Conference Overview

Communities are changing in ways unimagined a generation ago. While technology undercuts and fragments traditional communities in many ways, it also opens broad new possibilities. UPA 2004 will explore the ways that communities affect usability and users, as well as the ways that technology affects communities.

I’m excited to be co-chairing the 2004 conference in my “home town community” – the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. We have a local UPA chapter made up of people from many different backgrounds and who are themselves members of many other communities. We are eager to explore ways to improve the “community experience.”

I invite you to come to UPA 2004, to share your experience and knowledge. Our community needs you!

Conference Co-Chair, Caryn Zange Josephson

The 2004 conference continues the UPA tradition of an event that combines learning, networking and fun.

Before the conference begins, two days of tutorials and workshops provide opportunities to build professional skills or work on issues that we face today as practitioners.

The main conference starts with a posters reception on Tuesday night, opens with a keynote by Ginny Redish, and closes with a vision of the connected commmunity from Howard Rheingold on Friday afternoon. The events features presentations and panels by members of the community, invited speakers who bring new insights from other communities and events like the Idea Market, poster sessions and exhibits that help people connect to new ideas and new colleagues.

Companies can also network at UPA 2004, with opportunities for sponsorship and exhibits Be a visible part of the community.

The Usability Professionals' Association brings together people from all aspects of human-centered design, and the broad family of disciplines that create the user experience in promoting the design and development of usable products. So, whether you are a specialist in usability evaluation, a user experience strategist, an interaction or information architect or just interested in the subject, there's sure to be something for you at UPA 2004.
