Contribute to a new ISO

The forthcoming international standard ISO/CD 20282 'Ease of operation of everyday products' aims to develop requirements and recommendations for the design and evaluation of consumer products and 'walk-up-and-use' products. As part of this, the ISO team is developing a test method which specifies measures of the ease of operation of public 'walk-up-and-use' products when used by the general public for the first time. It provides a consistent measure of how successful a product is in enabling users to achieve the main goals of the product during first time use, and is likely to be of interest to developers and consumer organizations.

Simon Raistrick and his ISO colleagues are in the process of finalising the test method and gaining validation from various experts and professionals in the industry, and as part of this they are seeking feedback based on as many real world situations as possible in order to fine-tune the draft before it is released. The test method is aimed at test groups of 20, 50 or 100+ users of 'walk-up-and-use' products, and deals only with the main goal of the product. Tests will need to be completed before early July.
