Volunteer Job Name
Manager of the Friends of Usability Program
Volunteer job description
- Friends of Usability is a new program of the UPA.
- It allows UPA members to purchase certificates that acknowledge the work of others in their companies who help promote usability.
- The goal of this program is to create greater awareness of usability efforts and to thank those who make our work possible.
- It is our hope that these certificates will be displayed in offices and other public spaces.
- Certificates are purchased through the UPA web site, and orders are managed by the UPA office.
The manager of the Friends of Usability Program will:
- Monitor the ongoing program (with the assistance of the Director of Outreach), to ensure that it runs smoothly
- Promote the program through articles, distributing materials at chapter meetings, presentations and displays at the conference and any other ideas.
- Monitor the Friends of Usability pages on the UPA web site and request any changes needed. This includes ensuring that recipients are posted correctly.
In addition to the ongoing program, there are early plans for giving special awards to 3-4 highly deserving Friends. Ideally, the Manager will create criteria for these awards, and plan the program to honor the Friends at the UPA conference, with a small reception, and with press releases and other publicity.
Time Frame and Work Effort
This is an ongoing project, but has peak efforts around the conference
Time commitment estimated at 0.5-3 hours per week.
