Resources: About Usability
How Do I Get Started with Usability?
If you are just learning about usability, this
site includes some good resources - and links to many others - on usability,
whether you like learning by reading, listening or in discussion with
others. Some places to start are:
- "Usability Basics" on Usability.gov, the web site from the National Cancer Institute includes an excellent introduction to the field.
- The annual UXPA conference, held each summer, includes some of the best training courses available.
- The STC Usability SIG's "Top Ten" most recommended books is a good place to start building your bookshelf.
- Meetings at a local UXPA chapter is a good way to meet usability professionals in your area.
But if you have already done
some reading and are wondering how to take the first steps, here are some
articles written by others who have shared their experiences.
- Getting
Started with Usability by David Dick
How a technical communicator introduced usability to his department.
