Market Research Consultant- Senior User Researcher
Wells Fargo
San Francisco, CA

Posted on: 18 November, 2009

(Full-time position)
Requisition Number: 3314561

Job Description:

Wells Fargo’s Internet Services Group (ISG) is the driving creative and technical force behind Wellsfargo.com and Wachovia.com. ISG helps customers realize their financial goals by delivering the world's most innovative e-banking and e-commerce services, capabilities, and alliances. Wells Fargo is one of the largest Internet banks in the world, with over ten million online customers.

**This role is based in San Francisco, CA only**

Wells Fargo is seeking a well-rounded senior-level user research specialist with expertise in a broad range of qualitative methods including usability testing. The Senior User Researcher will join a mature bi-coastal research practice with offices in San Francisco and Charlotte, NC. The researcher will partner closely with the Customer Experience design team, internal business clients, research peers and vendors. While the primary focus of our practice is usability testing, we provide a range of research offerings including an ongoing Listening Lab program, mobile research, and ethnographic field studies.
There are two primary areas of responsibilities for this role noted below; these responsibilities require a combination of applying research expertise directly as well as management/oversight of vendor-executed studies.

(1) Leading/Managing research studies in collaboration with our trusted research partners (vendors). The senior researcher will act as an internal consultant to our business partners to define research goals, outline the study scope, and identify requirements for research materials (prototypes, etc.). In this consultant role, the researcher will also engage with one of our trusted research vendors to execute the research (the vendor would be responsible for all deliverables, including screener, discussion guide, moderation, and final report). This should not be confused for an outsourcing model where the work is passed off to a vendor, but rather this is a close collaboration and partnership between the internal senior researcher/consultant and research vendor from project start to end.

(2) Leading/executing listening lab studies
The second primary responsibility includes leading and executing small-scale studies as part of our Listening Lab program. This is a more traditionalrole in which the researcher partners with business clients and customer experience team and executes all aspects of research, providing early directional input to product and design concepts. As a Listening Lab moderator, the researcher will oversee recruiting, define/design the research methodology, moderate the study, analyze data, make recommendations, and effectively communicate findings to a broad audience of stakeholders. The senior user researcher would be one of several moderators who provide Listening Lab services for our business partners.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements Demonstrating Research Expertise
* Minimum of 5 years focused experience in usability testing of web interfaces
* Demonstrated experience with a variety of research methods, including 1-on-1 interviews, card sorts, and field studies.
* Demonstrated success in conducting research and testing with a wide variety of end users
* General comfort/willingness to learn standard research tools including use of Morae software, audio/video set up, etc.
Requirements Demonstrating Success in a Large and Dynamic Organization:
* Aptitude and demonstrated ability to speak confidently and persuasively to a senior-level audience
* Ability to partner and collaborate within cross-functional teams
* Ability to be self-directed with solid problem-solving skills and quick learning ability
* Ability to operate with flexibility and creativity in research planning given business and technical constraints
* Outstanding analytical skills

Preferred Skills:

* Education: Masters degree in the areas of HCI, Human Factors, Information Science or professional certification including Certified Usability Analyst
* Subject-matter expertise: Financial services experience and Mobile research experience
* Experience managing vendors
